Instagram and How To Enjoy It Again

enjoy Instagram again

It’s no secret that Instagram has lost some of its appeal. The algorithm is forever changing. It’s becoming harder and harder to get your photo’s seen and equally as hard to see the accounts you love. Just a few weeks ago I was wondering what the point was! In my opinion my photography had improved yet only a few people seemed to think so. So here is how I’ve started to enjoy Instagram again.

Pods shmods

Ok so I have a confession. I got a bit addicted to pods! I liked seeing that little chat sign when I opened up Instagram. But I had no time to actually read and reply! Leaving the pods has meant that any comments I receive are genuine and I have time to engage with those who have taken the time to comment. Thus beginning to enjoy Instagram again!

Branding isn’t the be all

It is so easy to get hung up on trying to create a theme. I began posting pictures because they fit with my theme – not because I truly loved them or because they were something I was proud of. You are the brand so just keep doing you!

Don’t hate the player hate the game

The follow/unfollow game is real. Don’t take it personally. It is all part of the game! In the same breath it is healthy to go through your followers and remove any that you may no longer enjoy or aren’t relevant to your life anymore.

Stop listening to the gurus

Maybe posting 2/3 times a day will help get you noticed. But people are only going to stick around if they like what they see. So posting 1 photo a day that you are 100% happy with is better than 2/3 half hearted attempts in my opinion!

Live in the moment – not Instagram

For me Instagram is just a place to store my memories but I am also aware that some moments should be just that. Memories and not another square! Sometimes you just need to take a step back, live in the moment and the photo will come.

So there you have it. I now enjoy Instagram again and its definitely creeping back up to my favourite platform. After twitter of course!

What other steps would you add?!

  1. Yes yes yes! Agree with the pods, I’m in less and less because I just don’t have time and I felt super fake. But, I love having a theme, mainly because it makes me feel organised and satisfies my OCD haha

  2. I’m only in a few pods as that’s all I can seem to cope with but it’s nice to read other people’s work otherwise I never seem to have the time to read.
