Review | Baker Days Letterbox Cake

I was approached by Baker Days and offered the chance to review one of their 5 inch Letterbox Cakes for Mothers Day. Obviously being a huge cake lover I couldn’t say no! There are so many different designs to chose from it really was hard to pick just one. But I decided on ‘Thank You on Mothers Day’ as I am all for showing appreciation! However I chose to have it say Happy Mother’s Day instead of Mothering Sunday.

As the title suggests the cake fits through your letterbox which means no waiting in for it and no annoying trip to the Post Office when you miss the delivery! Thus making it the ideal surprise gift.

After opening the postal box I was greeted with a beautiful presentation tin, a note card, balloons, candles and a party blower! Such lovely touches in my opinion as it is everything needed to celebrate a special occasion.

Before even opening the tin I could smell the cake and it smelt divine! I could not wait to tuck in but in true blogger style I snapped a few pictures first!

The cake looked just as it did on the website so I was very impressed. I would definitely have no worries about having this sent to my Mum.

According to Baker Day’s the letterbox cake makes 3-4 servings but we managed to get 8 servings. Obviously if you were to have bigger slices it would make less servings! The cake has a shelf life of at least two weeks from delivery as long as it is stored in a cool dry place. It didn’t stay around long enough to test this but how amazing if it does?!

The cake was a light sponge covered in icing. For me the icing tasted a bit papery (if that’s even a taste) and it really overpowered the sponge which I thought was a bit dry. It could have done with some butter cream and maybe even a bit of jam! However this didn’t stop James eating the majority of it.

Baker Days Letterbox cakes are £14.99 and free postage is included with a 7 day delivery. You can pay an additional postage charge if you need it sooner. The price includes a standard sponge cake but there is an option for different fillings including gluten free, at an additional charge.

Overall I think the idea of the Letterbox Cake is brilliant. I would be happy to send a loved one a cake for a very special occasion as I do think £14.99 is a bit pricey for the size of the cake! However the added touches really do make for a special gift.

*I was not paid for this post. I received the item for review purposes however all opinions are completely my own based on my own experience.*
